Inspection Procedure

  1. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the item "SHIFT D POS" in the DATA LIST and read its value displayed on the hand-held tester.

      OK: 

      ON: Shift D Position 

      OFF: Shift except D position 

    1. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (See  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ) 
    2. NG: Go to Next Step 
  2. INPUT SIGNAL CHECK 
    1. See "input signal check" on PRE-CHECK .
    2. Check the indicator light operation when shifting into except D position.

      OK: 

      The indicator light goes off when shifting into except D position.

    1. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (See  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ) 
    2. NG: Go to Next Step 
  3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY (DL, RB) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Check that the continuity exists between terminal 3 (RB) and 7 (DL) of the park/neutral position switch connected.

      OK: 

      Continuity

    1. NG: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step 
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Check for open and short circuit in the harness and the connector between terminal D of ECM and the park/neutral position switch (See ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
    2. Check for open and short circuit in the harness and the connector between terminal RB of the park/neutral position switch and the battery (See ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: CHECK AND REPLACE ECM (See  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  )
