Test No. 18: Daytime Running Lights Do Not Operate With Engine Running & Light Control Switch Off (With Daytime Running Lights)

  1. Check DOME fuse (7.5-amp). DOME fuse is located in driver side junction block located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure. If DOME fuse is okay, go to next step. If DOME fuse is defective, replace fuse and repair wiring harness or electrical connector on wiring circuit as necessary. See POWER DISTRIBUTION in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  2. Check GAUGE NO. 1 fuse (10-amp). GAUGE NO. 1 fuse is located in driver side junction block located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure. If GAUGE NO. 1 fuse is okay, go to next step. If GAUGE NO. 1 fuse is defective, replace fuse and repair wiring harness or electrical connector on wiring circuit as necessary. See POWER DISTRIBUTION in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  3. Check DRL (7.5-amp) fuse. DRL fuse is located in engine compartment junction block located in front of shock tower on left side of engine compartment. See Figure. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is defective, repair short in wiring between DRL fuse and DRL relay No. 3, fog light relay (if equipped) and/or headlight control relay. See HEADLIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  4. Check parking brake switch. See PARKING BRAKE SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If parking brake switch is okay, go to next step. If parking brake switch is defective, replace parking brake. See PARKING BRAKE SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  5. Check Yellow/Green wire between body control ECU 25-pin connector B4 terminal No. 15 and terminal No. 1 of parking brake switch. See Figure. See BODY COMPUTER in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If Yellow/Green wire, harness and connectors are okay, go to next step. If Yellow/Green wire, harness and connectors are not okay, repair or replace wiring or connectors as necessary. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  6. Check generator. See GENERATORS & REGULATORS . If generator is okay, go to next step. If generator is not okay, repair or replace generator as required. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  7. Check wiring harnesses and electrical connectors between battery and driver side junction block, battery and engine compartment junction block, engine compartment junction block and engine compartment relay block No. 2, engine compartment relay block No. 2 and headlights, body control ECU and engine compartment relay block No. 2, body control ECU and parking brake switch, and all ground connections. See HEADLIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If wiring harnesses or electrical connectors are defective, repair as necessary. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
