Inspection Procedure

  1. Check ODMS circuit. 

    When using the hand-held tester: 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    CHECK: 

    Read the OVERDRV CUT SW2 signal on the hand-held tester.

    1. OK: 
    O/D MAIN SWITCH DISPLAY

    O/D Main Switch Display
    Pressed when O/D ON OFF
    Pressed when O/D OFF ON

    When not using the hand-held tester: 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Disconnect the E4 ECM connector (5VZ-FE).
    2. Disconnect the E3 ECM connector (2UZ-FE).

    CHECK: 

    Measure the resistance between the terminal ODMS of the ECM connector and body ground.

    1. OK: 
    O/D MAIN SWITCH DISPLAY

    O/D Main Switch Specified Condition
    Pressed when O/D ON Below 1 Ω
    Pressed when O/D OFF 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG: Go to step   3 . 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step 
  2. Check ODLP circuit. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Disconnect the E4 ECM connector.
    2. Using a jumper wire, connect the ODLP terminal of the wire harness side ECM connector to the body ground.

    CHECK: 

    Check that the O/D OFF indicator light turns on when turning the ignition switch ON.

    OK: 

    The O/D indicator light turns on.

    1. NG: Go to step   5 . 
    2. OK: Check and replace ECM (see  HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ). 
  3. Check O/D main switch. 

    PREPARATION: 

    Disconnect the O/D main switch connector.

    CHECK: 

    Measure the resistance between the O/D main switch connector terminals 1 and 3.

    1. Standard: 
    O/D Main Switch Specific Conditions Table

    O/D Main Switch Specified Condition
    Pressed when ON position Below 1 Ω
    Pressed when OFF position 10 kΩ or higher

    OK: 

    Standard

    1. NG: Replace O/D main switch. 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step 
  4. Check harness and connector between ECM and O/D main switch. 
    1. NG: Repair or replace harness and connector between ECM and O/D main switch. 
    2. OK: Repair or replace harness and connector between O/D main switch and body ground. 
  5. Check harness and connector. 
    1. NG: Repair or replace harness and connector between ECM and combination meter. 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step 
  6. Check O/D indicator light bulb. 
    1. NG: Replace combination meter. 
    2. OK: Replace valve.
