Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the hand-held tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data, from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. CHECK FUSE (ETCS FUSE)
    1. Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room R/B and J/B.
    2. Check the ETCS fuse resistance.

      Standard: Below 1 Ω

    3. Reinstall the ETCS fuse.

    1. NG: CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESS AND COMPONENTS CONNECTED FUSE, AND REPLACE FUSE
    2. OK: Go to Next Step.
  2. INSPECT ECM (+BM VOLTAGE)
    1. Measure the voltage between the terminals of the A24 and B47 ECM connectors.

      Standard:

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connections Specified Conditions
      +BM (A24-7) - E1 (B47-1) 9 to 14 V

    1. OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS (see  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS   )
    2. NG: Go to Next Step.
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - ETCS FUSE, ETCS FUSE - BATTERY)
    1. Check the harness and connector between the ETCS fuse and ECM.
      1. Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room R/B and J/B.
      2. Disconnect the A24 ECM connector.
      3. Check the resistance.
