Confirmation Driving Pattern
HINT:
This confirmation driving pattern is used in step 9 of the following diagnostic troubleshooting procedure.
- Connect a hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Turn the tester or scan tool ON.
- Clear DTCs (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- If using a hand-held tester, switch the ECM from normal mode to check mode (see CHECK MODE PROCEDURE ).
- Start the engine.
- Allow the engine to idle until the engine coolant temperature reaches 75°C (167°F).
- Drive the vehicle at an engine speed of more than 25 mph (40 km/h) for 35 seconds or more.
- Allow the engine to idle for 40 seconds or more.
- Repeat steps (g) and (h) described above at least 3 times.
- Allow the engine to idle for 30 seconds or more.
- If using an OBD II scan tool, conduct the following additional operations:
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Repeat steps from (g) through (k) described above.
HINT:
- When using a hand-held tester: The MIL will be illuminated during step (k) if a malfunction still exists.
- When using an OBD II scan tool: The MIL will be illuminated during step (k) the second time if a malfunction still exists.
NOTE:
If the conditions in this test are not strictly followed, malfunctions may not be detected.
