Confirmation Driving Pattern

HINT:

This confirmation driving pattern is used in steps 3, 6, 8, and 16 of the following diagnostic troubleshooting procedure when using either a hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool.

1. Connect a hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Turn the tester or scan tool ON.
4. Clear DTCs (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
5. If using an OBD II scan tool, go to step ( g) below.
6. Switch the ECM from normal mode to check mode using the tester (see CHECK MODE PROCEDURE ).
7. Start the engine and warm it up for 2 minutes with all the accessories switched OFF.
8. Drive the vehicle at between 38 mph and 75 mph (60 km/h and 120 km/h) and at an engine speed of between 1,400 RPM and 3,200 RPM for 3 to 5 minutes.
9. If using an OBD II scan tool, conduct the following additional operations:
   1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
   2. Repeat steps ( g) and ( h) described above.

HINT:

• When using a hand-held tester: The MIL will be illuminated during step ( h) if a malfunction still exists.
• When using an OBD II scan tool: The MIL will be illuminated during step ( h) at second time if a malfunction still exists.
