Confirmation Driving Pattern

HINT:

This confirmation driving pattern is used in step 9 of the following diagnostic troubleshooting procedure.

  1. Connect a hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool the DLC3.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  3. Turn the tester or scan tool ON.
  4. Clear DTCs (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
  5. If using a hand-held tester, switch the ECM from normal mode to check mode (see CHECK MODE PROCEDURE ).
  6. Start the engine.
  7. Allow the engine to idle until the engine coolant temperature reaches 75°C (167°F).
  8. Drive the vehicle at an engine speed of more than 25 mph (40 km/h) for 35 seconds or more.
  9. Allow the engine to idle for 40 seconds or more.
  10. Repeat steps (g) and (h) described above at least 3 times.
  11. Allow the engine to idle for 30 seconds or more.
  12. If using an OBD II scan tool, conduct the following additional operations:
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Repeat steps from (g) through (k) described above.

HINT:

NOTE: If the conditions in this test are not strictly followed, malfunctions may not be detected.
