Inspection Procedure

Hand-held tester: 

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY HAND-HELD TESTER (OPERATE VSV FOR ACIS) 
    1. Disconnect the vacuum hose.
    2. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch ON and hand-held tester main switch ON.
    4. Select the item "DIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD II/ACTIVE TEST/INTAKE CTL VSV1" and operate the VSV for AICS.
    5. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the hand-held tester.
    6. Check the VSV operation when it is operated by the hand-held tester.

      Standard: 

      SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester operation Specified condition
      VSV is ON Air from port E flows out through port F
      VSV is OFF Air from port E flows out through the air filter
    7. Reconnect the vacuum hose.
    1. OK: Go to step   4 
    2. NG: Go to next step 
  2. CHECK VSV FOR ACIS (OPERATION) 
    1. Check that air flows from port E to the air filter.

    2. Apply battery positive voltage across the terminals.
    3. Check that air flows from port E to port F.

    1. NG: REPLACE VSV FOR ACIS 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VSV FOR ACIS - ECM, VSV FOR ACIS - EFI RELAY) 
    1. Check the wire harness between the VSV for ACIS connector and the ECM connector.
      1. Disconnect the V1 VSV for ACIS connector.
      2. Disconnect the E8 ECM connector.
      3. Check for continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for ACIS (V1-2) - ACIS (E8-15) Continuity

        Standard (Check for short): 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for ACIS (V1-2) or ACIS (E8-15) - E1 (E6-1) No continuity

      4. Reconnect the VSV for ACIS connector.
      5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Check the wire harness between the VSV for ACIS and the EFI relay.
      1. Disconnect the V1 VSV for ACIS connector.
      2. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room J/B.
      3. Check for continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open):

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for ACIS (V1-1) - EFI relay terminal 3 of J/B Continuity
      4. Reconnect the VSV for ACIS connector.
      5. Reinstall the EFI relay.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  4. CHECK VACUUM HOSE (INTAKE MANIFOLD - INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE, INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE - VSV FOR ACIS) 
    1. Check that the vacuum hose is connected correctly.
    2. Check the vacuum hose for looseness and disconnection.
    3. Check the vacuum hose for cracks, hole and damage.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE VACUUM HOSE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  5. INSPECT INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPLACE INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE 
    2. OK: CHECK AND REPLACE ECM (See  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 

OBD II scan tool (excluding hand-held tester): 

  1. INSPECT VSV FOR ACIS (OPERATION) 
    1. Check that air flows from port E to the air filter.

    2. Apply battery positive voltage across the terminals.
    3. Check that air flows from port E to port F.

    1. NG: REPLACE VSV FOR ACIS 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. CHECK ECM (ACIS VOLTAGE) 
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Measure the voltage between the terminals of the E6 and E8 ECM connectors.

    Standard:

    TERMINAL CONDITION

    Symbols (Terminal No.) Condition Specified condition
    ACIS (E8-15) - E1 (E6-1)
    1. Engine speed is 4,000 RPM or less
    2. Throttle valve opening angle is 30° or more
    9 to 14 V
    1. OK: Go to step   4 
    2. NG: Go to next step 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VSV FOR ACIS - ECM, VSV FOR ACIS - EFI RELAY) 
    1. Check the wire harness between the VSV for ACIS connector and the ECM connector.
      1. Disconnect the V1 VSV for ACIS connector.
      2. Disconnect the E8 ECM connector.
      3. Check for continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for ACIS (V1-2) - ACIS (E8-15) Continuity

        Standard (Check for short): 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for ACIS (V1-2) or ACIS (E8-15) - E1 (E6-1) No continuity
      4. Reconnect the VSV for ACIS connector.
      5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Check the wire harness between the VSV for ACIS and the EFI relay.
      1. Disconnect the V1 VSV for ACIS connector.
      2. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room J/B.
      3. Check for continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open):

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for ACIS (V1-1) - EFI relay terminal 3 of J/B Continuity
      4. Reconnect the VSV for ACIS connector.
      5. Reinstall the EFI relay.

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  4. CHECK VACUUM HOSE (INTAKE MANIFOLD - INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE, INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE - VSV FOR ACIS) 
    1. Check if the vacuum hose is connected correctly.
    2. Check the vacuum hose for looseness and disconnection.

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE VACUUM HOSE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP

    2. OK: CHECK AND REPLACE ECM (See  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  )
