Inspection Procedure

Hand-held Tester: 

  1. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (VSV FOR AICV) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON and the hand-held tester main switch ON.
    2. Select the item "DIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD II/ACTIVE TEST/INTAKE CTL VSV1" and operate the VSV for AICV.
    3. Check the operation of the VSV when the VSV is operated by the hand-held tester.

    Standard: 

    SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester operation Specified condition
    VSV is ON Air from port E flows out through port F
    VSV is OFF Air from port E flows out through the air filter

    1. OK: Go to step   4 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  2. CHECK VSV (FOR AICV) (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPLACE INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ASSY NO. 3 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VSV FOR AICV - ECM, VSV FOR AICV - EFI RELAY) 
    1. Check the wire harness between the VSV for AICV connector and the ECM connector.
      1. Disconnect the V2 VSV for AICV connector.
      2. Disconnect the E8 ECM connector.
      3. Check for continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for AICV (V2-2) - AICV (E8-33) Continuity

        Standard (Check for short): 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for AICV (V2-2) or AICV (E8-33) - E1 (E6-1) No continuity
      4. Reconnect the VSV for AICV connector.
      5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Check the wire harness between the VSV for AICV and the EFI relay.
      1. Disconnect the V2 VSV for AICV connector.
      2. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room J/B.
      3. Check for continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for AICV (V2-1) - EFI relay terminal 3 of J/B Continuity
      4. Reconnect the VSV for AICV connector.
      5. Reinstall the EFI relay.

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  4. INSPECT VACUUM TANK (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE 
    2. OK: CHECK AND REPLACE ECM (See  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 

OBDII scan tool (excluding Hand-held Tester): 

  1. CHECK VSV (FOR AICV) (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPLACE INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ASSY NO. 3 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  2. INSPECT ECM 
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    2. Measure the voltage between terminals AICV and E2 of the E8 ECM connector.

      Voltage: 9 to 14 V

    1. NG: CHECK AND REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  3. INSPECT VACUUM TANK (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  4. CHECK AND REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VSV FOR AICV - ECM, VSV FOR AICV - EFI RELAY) 
    1. Check the wire harness between the VSV for AICV connector and the ECM connector.
      1. Disconnect the V2 VSV for AICV connector.
      2. Disconnect the E8 ECM connector.
      3. Check for continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for AICV (V2-2) - AICV (E8-33) Continuity

        Standard (Check for short): 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for AICV (V2-2) or AICV (E8-33) - E1 (E6-1) No continuity
      4. Reconnect the VSV for AICV connector.
      5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Check the wire harness between the VSV for AICV and the EFI relay.
      1. Disconnect the V2 VSV for AICV connector.
      2. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room J/B.
      3. Check for continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
        VSV for AICV (V2-1) - EFI relay terminal 3 of J/B Continuity
      4. Reconnect the VSV for AICV connector.
      5. Reinstall the EFI relay.

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: CHECK AND REPLACE ECM (See  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  )
