Inspection Procedure

  1. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION (FOR STOP LIGHT) 
    1. Check that the stop light comes on while depressing the brake pedal, and goes off when releasing the brake pedal.

      OK 

      STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION (FOR STOP LIGHT)

      Brake pedal condition Stop light condition
      Depressed ON
      Released OFF

    NG: INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH CIRCUIT 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION (FOR BACK-UP SIGNAL) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the stop light switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION (FOR BACK-UP SIGNAL)  .

      Standard resistance 

      STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION (FOR BACK-UP SIGNAL)

      Tester connection Switch condition Specification
      3 - 4 Switch pin free (Brake pedal depressed) 10 Ω or higher
      3 - 4 Switch pin pushed in (Brake pedal released) Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. INSPECT ECM 
    1. Reconnect the stop light switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in ECM (3MZ-FE - 1 OF 2)  and ECM (2AZ-FE - 1 OF 2)  .

      Standard voltage: 

      3MZ-FE 

      ECM (3MZ-FE - 1 OF 2)

      Tester connection Brake pedal condition Specification
      STP (E5-19) - Body ground Depressed 10 to 14 V
      STP (E5-19) - Body ground Released Below 1 V

      2AZ-FE 

      ECM (2AZ-FE - 1 OF 2)

      Tester connection Brake pedal condition Specification
      STP (E5-4) - Body ground Depressed 10 to 14 V
      STP (E5-4) - Body ground Released Below 1 V

    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in ECM (3MZ-FE - 2 OF 2)  and ECM (2AZ-FE - 2 OF 2)  .

      Standard voltage: 

      3MZ-FE 

      ECM (3MZ-FE - 2 OF 2)

      Tester connection Brake pedal condition Specification
      ST1- (E5-12) - Body ground Depressed Below 1 V
      ST1- (E5-12) - Body ground Released 10 to 14 V

      2AZ-FE 

      ECM (2AZ-FE - 2 OF 2)

      Tester connection Brake pedal condition Specification
      ST1- (E4-16) - Body ground Depressed Below 1 V
      ST1- (E4-16) - Body ground Released 10 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH - ECM) 

    OK: REPLACE ECM
