Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Separate type amplifier:

      Disconnect the connectors shown in the illustration on the left from the stereo component amplifier and speakers.

    2. Built-in type amplifier:

      Disconnect the connectors shown in the illustration on the left from the radio receiver and speakers.

    3. Separate type amplifier:

      Measure the resistance between each speaker and the stereo component amplifier to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard resistance: 

      Below 1 Ω

    4. Built-in type amplifier:

      Measure the resistance between each speaker and the radio receiver to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

    5. Measure the resistance between each speaker and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard resistance: 

      10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. CHECK VEHICLE TYPE 
    1. Choose type to be inspected.
      VEHICLE TYPE

      Type Proceed to
      w/ No. 1 Woofer Box Speaker A
      w/o No. 1 Woofer Box Speaker B

    B: Go to step  4

    A: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. INSPECT NO. 1 WOOFER BOX SPEAKER 
    1. Resistance check.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in NO. 1 WOOFER BOX SPEAKER  .
      NOTE: The speaker should not be removed for checking.

      Standard resistance 

      NO. 1 WOOFER BOX SPEAKER

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      1 - 3 Always 0.7 to 1.9 Ω
      2 - 4 Always 0.7 to 1.9 Ω

    NG: REPLACE NO. 1 WOOFER BOX SPEAKER 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  4. INSPECT FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER 
    1. Resistance check.
      1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.

        Standard resistance: 

        • Separate Type Amplifier: 2.3 to 2.9 Ω 
        • Built-in Type Amplifier: 3.4 to 4.6 Ω 

    NG: REPLACE FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  5. INSPECT FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER 
    1. Check that malfunction disappears when another speaker in good condition is installed.

      OK: 

      Malfunction disappears. 

      HINT:

      • Connect all the connectors to the speakers.
      • When there is a possibility that either right or left front speaker is detective, inspect by interchanging the right one and the left one.

    OK: REPLACE FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  6. INSPECT REAR SPEAKER 
    1. Resistance check.
      1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.

        Standard resistance: 

        • Separate Type Amplifier: 1.6 to 2.0 Ω 
        • Built-in Type Amplifier: 3.4 to 4.6 Ω 

    NG: REPLACE REAR SPEAKER 

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
