Steering Column Assembly: Installation

  1. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the steering column assembly with the 3 bolts.

      Torque: 21 N*m (210 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

    2. Connect the connectors and wire harness clamps.
  2. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the sliding yoke and steering intermediate shaft.

    3. Install the bolt B and torque the bolt A.

      Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) 

  3. INSTALL COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET 
  4. INSTALL WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the windshield wiper switch assembly and connect the connector.
  5. INSTALL HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the headlight dimmer switch assembly and connect the connector.
  6. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  7. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE 
  8. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT PARKING LOCK CABLE ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle) 
    1. With the key in ACC, push into the floor shift parking lock cable and install it.
  9. CHECK KEY INTERLOCK OPERATION 
  10. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Install the steering column cover with the 3 screws.

  11. CENTER SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Check that the ignition switch is at OFF.
    2. Check that the battery negative terminal is disconnected.
      NOTE: Do not start the operation for 90 seconds after removing the terminal.
    3. Turn the cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn.

    4. Then rotate the cable clockwise about 2.5 turns to align the marks.

      HINT:

      The cable will rotate about 2.5 turns to either right or left of the center.

  12. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmark with the one on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft assembly.

    3. Install the steering wheel assembly with the set nut.

      Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf) 

    4. Connect the connector.
  13. INSPECT STEERING PAD (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
  14. INSTALL STEERING PAD 
    NOTE:
    • Never use the airbag parts removed from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace with new ones.
    • Make sure that the steering pad is installed to the specified torque.
    • If the steering pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the steering pad with a new one.
    • When installing the steering pad, take care so that the wirings do not interfere with other parts and that they are not pinched between other parts.
    1. Connect the 2 airbag connectors.
    2. Install the steering pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the torx screws is caught on the screw case.
    3. Using a torx socket wrench, torque the 2 torx screws.

      Torque: 8.8 N*m (90 kgf*cm, 78 in.*lbf)

  15. STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  16. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
