- CHECK OPERATION OF ENGINE CRANKING
- When pushing the engine switch to start the engine, check if the starter motor starts.
OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
NG: Go to Next Step
- CHECK DTC FOR PUSH BUTTON START

- READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (STA SIGNAL)
- Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
- Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / ALL / STARTER SIG. Read the values.

- INSPECT ECM (STAR AND STSW VOLTAGE)
- Measure the voltage between the terminals of the ECM connectors, while cranking the engine.

- Measure the voltage between the terminals of the ECM connectors, while cranking the engine.
- INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
- Inspect the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch.
- Disconnect the PNP switch connector.
- Measure the resistance when the transmission gear selector lever is moved to each position.

OK: CHECK AND REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM)
- Inspect the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch.
- INSPECT STARTER RELAY
- Remove the ST relay and ST CUT relay from the engine room R/B and J/B.
- Measure the ST relay resistance.
Standard
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITIONTester Connections Specified Conditions 3 - 5 10 kΩ or higher 3 - 5 Below 1 Ω (When battery voltage apply to terminals 1 and 2) - Reinstall the ST relay and ST CUT relay.
NG: REPLACE STARTER RELAY
OK: Go to Next Step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ST RELAY)
- Check the harness and connector between the park/neutral position switch, ST relay and ST CUT relay.
- Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
- Remove the ST relay and ST CUT relay from the engine room R/B and J/B.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance (Check for open)

- Check the harness and connector between the ST relay, ST CUT relay and body ground.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to Next Step
- Check the harness and connector between the park/neutral position switch, ST relay and ST CUT relay.
- INSPECT ENGINE ROOM RELAY BLOCK (ST RELAY VOLTAGE)
- Remove the ST relay from the engine room R/B and J/B.
- Measure the voltage between the terminal of the engine room R/B and J/B and body ground.
Standard voltage
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITIONTester Connections Specified Conditions Engine room R/B and J/B (ST relay terminal 5) - Body ground 9 to 14 V - Reinstall the ST relay.
NG: CHECK AND REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - BATTERY)
OK: Go to Next Step
- INSPECT STARTER ASSEMBLY
- Inspect the starter assembly (See INSPECTION ).
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE STARTER ASSEMBLY
OK: CHECK AND REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - STARTER, STARTER-BATTERY)
- CHECK FUSE (ST)
- Check for continuity in the ST fuse.

- Check for continuity in the ST fuse.
- INSPECT PUSH START SWITCH
- Inspect the push start switch (See INSPECTION ).
