Inspection Procedure

HINT:

• Read freeze frame data using an intelligent tester or OBD II scan tool. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.
• The throttle actuator current (THROTTLE MOT) and the throttle actuator duty ratio (THROTTLE OPN / THROTTLE CLS) can be read using an intelligent tester. However, the ECM shuts off the throttle actuator current when the ETCS malfunctions.

1. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY (THROTTLE ACTUATOR RESISTANCE) 
   1. Disconnect the T6 throttle body assembly connector.
   2. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the throttle body.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS
      
      

      Tester Connections	Specified Conditions
      M+ (2) - M- (1)	Between 0.3 Ω and 100 Ω at 20°C (68°F)

   3. Reconnect the throttle body connector.

   NG: REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

   OK : Go to Next Step 

2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (THROTTLE ACTUATOR - ECM) 
   1. Disconnect the T6 throttle body connector.
   2. Disconnect the E4 ECM connector.
   3. Check the resistance.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS FOR OPEN
      
      

      Tester Connections	Specified Conditions
      M+ (T6-2) - M+ (E4-4)	Below 1 Ω
      M- (T6-1) - M- (E4-3)	Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS (FOR SHORT)
      
      

      Tester Connections	Specified Conditions
      M+ (T6-2) or M+ (E4-4) - Body ground	10 kΩ or higher
      M- (T6-1) or M- (E4-3) - Body ground	10 kΩ or higher

   4. Reconnect the throttle body connector.
   5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

   NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

   OK : Go to Next Step 

3. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY 
   1. Check for foreign objects between the throttle valve and the housing.

   NG: CLEAN THROTTLE BODY 

   OK : Go to Next Step 

4. INSPECT THROTTLE VALVE 
   1. Check if the throttle valve opens and closes smoothly.

   NG: REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 

   OK : REPLACE ECM
