Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor: Removal

  1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT  (see REPLACEMENT )
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP  (see REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE  (see REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR 
    1. Disconnect the sensor connector.
    2. Using SST, remove the sensor and gasket.

      SST 09817-33190 



  1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT  (see REPLACEMENT )
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  3. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and engine cover.

  4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP 
    1. Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector.
    2. Disconnect the purge VSV connector.
    3. Disconnect the 4 wire harness clamps.

    4. Disconnect the No. 2 ventilation hose from the air cleaner hose.
    5. Disconnect the purge line hose from the clamp.

    6. Lock the No. 1 air cleaner hose clamp, and then disconnect the No. 1 air cleaner hose from the throttle body.

    7. Unfasten the 2 hook clamps, and then remove the air cleaner cap.
    8. Remove the air cleaner filter element from the air cleaner case.

  5. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY 
    1. Disconnect the purge line hose from the throttle body.
    2. Disconnect the water by-pass hose from the throttle body.
    3. Disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose from the throttle body.
    4. Disconnect the No. 1 throttle body hose from the throttle body.
    5. Disconnect the throttle position sensor and control motor connector.

    6. Disconnect the wire harness clamp.
    7. Disconnect the fuel tube from the clamp.
    8. Remove the 4 bolts, and then remove the fuel pipe support and throttle body.

    9. Remove the gasket from the intake manifold.
