Inspection Procedure

1. Check that the stop light comes on while depressing the brake pedal, and goes off when releasing the brake pedal.

   OK 

   STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION REFERENCE
   
   

   Brake pedal condition	Stop light condition
   Depressed	ON
   Released	OFF

NG: INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH CIRCUIT 

OK: Go to next step 

1. Turn the ignition switch off.
2. Disconnect the stop light switch connector.
3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

   Standard resistance 

   STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION (FOR BACK-UP SIGNAL)
   
   

   Tester connection	Switch condition	Specification
   3 - 4	Switch pin free (Brake pedal depressed)	10 kΩ or higher
   3 - 4	Switch pin pushed in (Brake pedal released)	Below 1 Ω
   1 - 2	Switch pin free (Brake pedal depressed)	Below 1 Ω
   1 - 2	Switch pin pushed in (Brake pedal released)	10 kΩ or higher

NG: REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH 

OK: Go to next step 

1. Reconnect the stop light switch connector.
2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

   Standard voltage: 

   3MZ-FE 

   ECM VOLTAGE CHART (3MZ-FE)

   E4-15 (STP) - Body ground	Depressed	10 to 14 V
   E4-15 (STP) - Body ground	Released	Below 1 V

   2AZ-FE 

   EMC VOLTAGE CHART (2AZ-FE)

   E5-4 (STP) - Body ground	Depressed	10 to 14 V
   E54 (STP) - Body ground	Released	Below 1 V

5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

   Standard voltage: 

   3MZ-FE

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH - ECM) 

OK: REPLACE ECM
