Inspection Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY TECHSTREAM (ACTIVE THE VSV FOR INTAKE CONTROL) 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the tester on.
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Active the VSV for Intake Control.
    4. Check the operation of the VSV when the intake air control is operated by the tester.

      OK: Operational noise can be heard. 

    NG: Go to step   2 

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE )

  2. CHECK INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE (OPERATION) 
    1. Disconnect the intake air control valve connector.
    2. Apply battery voltage between the terminals of the air intake valve connector.
    3. Check the air intake valve operation.

      OK: Operational noise can be heard. 

    4. Reconnect the intake air control valve connector.

    NG: REPLACE INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK  (See INTAKE MANIFOLD )

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT TERMINAL VOLTAGE (INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the intake air control valve connection.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION TABLE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      2 - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 9 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the intake air control valve connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (EFI NO. 3 - INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the intake air control valve connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance: 

      Check for open 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE: CHECK FOR OPEN

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B28-1 - B1-33 (ACIS) Always Below 1 Ω

      Check for short 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE: CHECK FOR SHORT

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B28-1 or B1-33 (ACIS) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the intake air control valve connector.
    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (VSV FOR ACIS - ECM) 

    OK: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL  )
