Inspection Procedure

NOTE: Turn the ignition switch off before measuring the resistances of CAN bus main wires and CAN bus branch wires.
  1. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (ECU MAIN BUS WIRE) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector (E5).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E5-15 (CANH) - E5-31 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN MAIN WIRE OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK ECM POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT 
    1. Check the ECM power source circuit (See ECM POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT ).

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed
      OK (w/VSC) A
      OK (w/o VSC) B
      NG C

    B: Go to step 3 

    C : REPLACE ECM POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK DLC3 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition Result
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 54 to 69 Ω Below 53 Ω: Short in line
      108 to 132 Ω or more: Open in main wire
      133 Ω, or more: Open in DLC3 branch wire
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-16 (BAT) Negative battery terminal disconnected 6 kΩ or more Below 6 kΩ: +B short
      D1-14 (CANL) - D1-16 (BAT) Negative battery terminal disconnected 6 kΩ or more Below 6 kΩ: +B short
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-4 (CG) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or more Below 200 Ω: GND short
      D1-14 (CANL) - D1-4 (CG) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or more Below 200 Ω: GND short

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed
      OK A
      Open in DLC3 branch wire B
      Open in main wire C
      Short in line, +B short, GND short D

    B: REPAIR OR REPLACE DLC3 BRANCH WIRE OR CONNECTOR 

    C: Go to step 4 

    D:  Go to step  6

    A: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL )

  4. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the ECM main wire connector from CAN junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

    NG: REPLACE JUNCTION CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE 
    1. Reconnect the ECM main wire connector to CAN junction connector.
    2. Disconnect ECM connector (E5).
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E5-15 (CANH) - E5-31 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BUS MAIN WIRE (CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR - ECM) 

    OK: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL )

  6. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (DLC3) 
    1. Disconnect the DLC3 branch wire connector from the CAN junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 1 MΩ or more
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-16 (BAT) Negative battery terminal disconnected 6 kΩ. or more
      D1-14 (CANL) - D1-16 (BAT) Negative battery terminal disconnected 6 kΩ or more
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-4 (CG) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or more
      D1-14 (CANL) - D1-4 (CG) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or more

    NG: CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR - ECM) 
    1. Reconnect the DLC3 branch wire connector to CAN junction connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM main wire connector from the CAN junction connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 1 MΩ or more
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-16 (BAT) Negative battery terminal disconnected 6 kΩ or more
      D1-14 (CANL) - D1-16 (BAT) Negative battery terminal disconnected 6 kΩ or more
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-4(CG) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or more

    NG: REPLACE JUNCTION CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR - ECM) 
    1. Reconnect the ECM main wire connector to CAN junction connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector (E5).

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 1 MΩ or more
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-16 (BAT) Negative battery terminal disconnected 6 kΩ or more
      D1-14 (CANL) - D1-16 (BAT) Negative battery terminal disconnected 6 kΩ or more
      D1-6 (CANH) - D1-4 (CG) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or more

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BUS MAIN WIRE (CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR - ECM) 

    OK: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL )
