Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota Yaris. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Select the following menu items: Chassis / ABS/VSC/ TRAC / Data List.

      DATA LIST: ABS 

      ABS DATA LIST REFERENCE

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Conditions
      Stop lamp SW Stop light switch / ON or OFF ON: Brake pedal depressed
      OFF: Brake pedal released
    5. Check that "Stop lamp SW" is turned ON and OFF when the brake pedal is depressed and released.

      OK: 

      "Stop lamp SW" is turned ON and OFF in accordance with the operation of the brake pedal. 

    NG:  Go to step  3

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK SKID CONTROL ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (STP) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.

    3. Measure the voltage.

      Standard voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A15-10 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 8 to 14 V
      A15-10 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal released Below 4.0 V

    NG:  Go to step  5

    OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR (See  REMOVAL   ) 

  3. INSPECT FUSE (STOP) 
    1. Remove the STOP fuse from the main body ECU.

    3. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance: 

      Below 1 Ω 

    NG: CHECK FOR SHORTS IN ALL HARNESSES AND CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the stop light switch connector.

    3. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1-2 Switch pin released Below 1 Ω
      3-4 Switch pin released 10 kΩ or higher
      1-2 Switch pin pushed in 10 kΩ or higher
      3-4 Switch pin pushed in Below 1 Ω

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      OK A
      NG (Hatchback) B
      NG (Sedan) C

    B: REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY (for Hatchback)  (See REMOVAL )

    C: REPLACE STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSEMBLY (for Sedan)  (See REMOVAL )

    A: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - STOP LIGHT SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.

    3. Disconnect the stop light switch connector.
    4. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      A15-10(STP) - A13-1 Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    2. Check if the same DTC is output (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      DTC output A
      DTC not output B

    B: END 

    A: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR (See  REMOVAL   )
