Inspection Procedure

  1. READ OUTPUT DTC (DTC P0606) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ETC / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read DTCs.

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed To
      P0606 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 A
      P0606 B

    B: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL )

    A: Go to Next Step  )

  2. INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158) 
    • If P0136 or P0156 is out put, troubleshoot for that DTC first. (The proceed toStep 6 ).
    • If P0137 or P0157 is out put, troubleshoot for that DTC first. (The proceed toStep 6 ).
    • If P0138 or P0158 is out put, troubleshoot for that DTC first (The proceed toStep 6 ).
      NOTE: If P0606 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156 P0157 or P0158 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).
  3. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK 
    1. Allow the engine to idle and rev the engine.
    2. Check for exhaust gas leak around the heated oxygen sensor.

      If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair it and proceed to step 4. If no exhaust gas leaks are present, proceed to step 4.

      HINT:

      • If no exhaust gas leaks are present, a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit is suspected.
      • If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.
      • Go to Next Step

  4. PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

    1. Clear DTCs.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature becomes 75 °C (167 °F) or more.
    4. Perform the driving pattern.
      1. Accelerate the vehicle until 80 km/h (50 mph) and stop the vehicle.
      2. Drive the vehicle by 60 to 80 km/h (35 to 50 mph) for 5 minutes or more.
    5. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ETC / Trouble Codes.
    6. Read DTCs.
      Result:

      Result Proceed to
      P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157, P0158 and / or P0606 A
      P0606 B
      No output C

      C: INSPECT ECM 

      B: REPLACE ECM 

      A: Go to Next Step 

  5. INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158) 
    1. Inspect the P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 flow chart.
      • If P0136 or P0156 is out put, troubleshoot for that DTC first (The proceed toStep 6 ).
      • If P0137 or P0157 is out put, troubleshoot for that DTC first (The proceed toStep 6 ).
      • If P0138 or P0158 is out put, troubleshoot for that DTC first (The proceed toStep 6 ).
      • If P0606 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156 P0157 or P0158 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).
      • Go to Next Step 

  6. INSPECT ECM 
    1. Clear DTCs.
    2. Stop the engine and wait for 30 minutes.
    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Start the engine and allow it to idle for 2 minutes.
    5. Turn the tester on.
    6. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ETC / Trouble Codes.
    7. Read DTCs.
      Result:

      Result Proceed to
      P0606 A
      No output B

      B: END 

      A: REPLACE ECM
