Engine Control System (2GR-FE) - System And Component Testing, Removal, Inspection And Installation: ECM: Removal

NOTE: Before removing the tire pressure warning ECU, read the registered transmitter IDs of all wheels and write them down to use for re-registration of transmitter IDs (See REGISTRATION ).
  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
    NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  2. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and the LH side (See REMOVAL ).

  3. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and the LH side (See REMOVAL ).

  4. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) (w/ Smart Key System)  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING ECU  (See INSTALLATION )
  8. REMOVE ECM 
    1. Separate the harness connector.
    2. Disconnect the 5 ECM connectors.
    3. Remove the wire harness clamp.
    4. Remove the 2 nuts, bolt and ECM.

  9. REMOVE NO. 1 ECM BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and No. 1 ECM bracket.

  10. REMOVE NO. 2 ECM BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and No. 2 ECM bracket.
