Wiper Switch: Inspection

  1. INSPECT WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
    1. Check the front wiper switch.
      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      STANDARD RESISTANCE REFERENCE

Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E14-1 (+S) - E14-3 (+1) INT Below 1 Ω
      OFF
      E14-2 (+B) - E14-3 (+1) MIST
      LO
      E14-2 (+B) - E14-4 (+2) HI

If the result is not as specified, replace the switch assembly.

    2. Check the front washer switch.
      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      STANDARD RESISTANCE REFERENCE

Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E13-2 (EW) - E13-3 (WF) ON Below 1 Ω
      OFF 10 kΩ or higher

If the result is not as specified, replace the switch assembly.

    3. Check the intermittent operation (w/o Intermittent timing adjustment).
      1. Connect a voltmeter's positive (+) lead to terminal E14-3 (+1) and the negative (-) lead to terminal E13-2 (EW).
      2. Connect a battery positive (+) lead to terminal E14-2 (+B) and the negative (-) lead to terminals E13-2 (EW) and E14-1 (+S).
      3. Turn the wiper switch to the INT position.
      4. Connect a battery positive (+) lead to terminal E14-1 (+S) for 5 seconds.
      5. Connect a battery negative (-) lead to terminal E14-1 (+S). Operate the intermittent wiper relay and check the voltage between terminals E14-3 (+1) and E13-2 (EW).

        OK:

Voltage changes as shown in the illustration below  .

If the result is not as specified, replace the switch assembly.

    4. Check the intermittent operation (w/ Intermittent timing adjustment).
