REAR SPEED SENSOR (for 2WD): Removal

HINT:

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  2. REMOVE FRONT UPPER CONSOLE BOX (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)  (See REMOVAL )
  3. LOOSEN PARKING BRAKE CABLE (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)  (See REMOVAL )
  4. DISCONNECT REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension) 
    1. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector from the rear speed sensor.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the rear speed sensor.

  5. DISCONNECT REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension) 
    1. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector from the rear speed sensor.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the rear speed sensor.
  6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE LEVER PROTECTOR (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)  (See REMOVAL )
  7. SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)  (See REMOVAL )

  8. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)  (See REPLACEMENT )
  9. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension)  (See REPLACEMENT )
  10. REMOVE REAR DISC (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  11. REMOVE REAR DISC (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension)  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  12. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY WITH REAR SPEED SENSOR (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY WITH REAR SPEED SENSOR (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension)  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE REAR SPEED SENSOR 
    1. Install 3 hub nuts and mount the rear axle hub and bearing assembly in a vise using aluminum plates.
      NOTE: Replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly if it is dropped or receives a strong shock.
    2. Using a pin punch and hammer, drive out the 2 pins and remove the 2 attachments from SST.

      SST 09520-00031 (09521-00010, 09520-00040), 09521-00020 

    3. Using SST and 2 bolts (diameter: 12 mm, pitch: 1.5 mm), remove the rear speed sensor from the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

      SST 09520-00031 (09521-00010, 09520-00040), 09521-00020, 09950-00020 

      NOTE:
      • Keep the rear speed sensor away from magnets.
      • Pull the rear speed sensor off straight, taking care not to allow it to contact the rear speed sensor rotor.
      • If the rear speed sensor rotor is damaged or deformed, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
      • Do not scratch the contact surfaces between the rear axle hub and bearing assembly and the rear speed sensor.
      • Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the speed sensor rotor or tip.

      HINT:

      If the sensor rotor needs to be replaced, replace it together with the rear axle hub and bearing assembly with rear speed sensor.
