Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data record the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data, from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect to the Techstream the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    5. Read the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to the ON and START positions.

      OK 

      IGNITION SWITCH POSITION CHART

      START ON

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      OK A
      NG (for Automatic transaxle models) B
      NG (for Manual transaxle models) C

      B: Go to step 2 

      C: Go to step  4

      A: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS  (See CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS )

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    6. Read the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to ON.

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Starter Signal Proceed to
      ON A
      OFF B
    7. Reconnect the park/neutral position switch.

      B: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH  (See REMOVAL )

      A: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT ECM (STA TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Result 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      B13-5 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V A
      Below 1.5 V B
    5. Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    6. Reconnect the ECM connector.

      B: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL )

      A: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ST RELAY) 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    6. Read the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to ON.

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

    7. Reconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.

      B: Go to step  6

      A: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT ECM (STA TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Result

      Below 1.5 V B
    5. Reconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.
    6. Reconnect the ECM connector.

      B: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL )

      A: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH - ST RELAY) 

  6. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the ignition switch assembly (See INSPECTION ).

      NG: REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

      OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH - IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY - ECM)
