Removal (From 12/2010): Removal

NOTE:
- When the automatic transaxle is replaced, the transaxle's compensation code must be input into the TCM. Refer to REGISTRATION .
- When the TCM is replaced, the existing transaxle compensation codes must be input into the new TCM. Refer to REGISTRATION - Step 2 .
- If the following parts have been replaced, initialize the TCM and perform a road test to allow the TCM to learn. Refer to INITIALIZATION

- Valve body assembly
- Shift solenoid SL3
- Shift solenoid SL4
- If the following parts have been replaced, perform a road test to allow the TCM to learn. Refer to INITIALIZATION
.
- Shift solenoid SL1
- Shift solenoid SL2
- If the TCM or transaxle has been replaced, register the transmission compensation code in the TCM. Refer to REGISTRATION .
- Perform RESET MEMORY (AT initialization) when replacing the automatic transmission assembly, engine assembly or ECM. Refer to INITIALIZATION .
- DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION .
- PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
- REMOVE FRONT WHEELS
- REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH
- REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER RH
- REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH
- DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT . Refer to REPLACEMENT - Step 1
- DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID
- Remove the refill plug and gasket.
- Using a 6 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the overflow plug and gasket.
- Using a 6 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the No. 1 transmission oil filler tube.
- Drain the automatic transaxle fluid.
- Using a 6 mm socket hexagon wrench, install the No. 1 transmission oil filler tube.

Torque: 1.7 N*m (17 kgf*cm, 15 in.*lbf)
- Using a 6 mm socket hexagon wrench, install the overflow plug with a new gasket.
Torque: 40 N*m (408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf)
- Install the refill plug with a new gasket.
Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf)

- DISCONNECT HEATER WATER HOSE INLET A . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 33

- REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4

- DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 38
- SEPARATE WIRE HARNESS
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the wire harness.
- DISCONNECT CONNECTOR
- Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
- DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
- Remove the nut from the control shaft lever.
- Disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the control shaft lever.
- Remove the clip and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket.
- DISCONNECT NO. 1 OIL RESERVOIR TO PUMP HOSE . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 42
- DISCONNECT STEERING GEAR OUTLET RETURN TUBE . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 43
- REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2
- REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
- SEPARATE FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5

- Remove the 2 bolts, exhaust pipe support bracket and flywheel housing under cover.
- REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT
- Turn the crankshaft to gain access and remove the 6 bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.
- SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
- REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4

- Remove the bolt and breather bracket from the camshaft housing sub-assembly LH.
- Remove the breather hose from the breather bracket.
- Remove the 11 bolts.
- Separate and remove the automatic transaxle.
- REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING FRONT BRACKET
- Remove the 3 bolts and engine mounting front bracket.
- REMOVE TCM
- Remove the 2 bolts and TCM from the transaxle.
- REMOVE SPEEDOMETER DRIVEN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the bolt and hole cover from the transaxle case.
- Remove the O-ring from the hole cover.
- REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET
- Remove the 4 bolts and 4 clamp brackets.
- REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET
- Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 transmission control cable bracket.
- SEPARATE NO. 1 OIL COOLER OUTLET HOSE
- Separate the No. 1 oil cooler outlet hose.
- SEPARATE NO. 1 OIL COOLER INLET HOSE
- Separate the No. 1 oil cooler inlet hose.
- REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
- Remove the torque converter clutch assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.
