Installation (To 12/2010): Installation

  1. INSTALL STEERING ANGLE SENSOR (w/ VSC)  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 1
  2. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
    2. Set the turn signal switch to the neutral position.
      NOTE:

      If it is not in the neutral position, the pin of the turn signal switch may snap.

    3. Install the spiral cable.

      NOTE:

      When replacing the spiral cable with a new one, remove the lock pin before installing the steering wheel assembly.

    4. Connect the connectors to the spiral cable.
      NOTE:

      When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

  3. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 9
  4. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 10
  5. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.
    2. Check that the battery negative (-) terminal is disconnected.
      WARNING:

      After removing the terminal, wait for at least 90 seconds before starting the operation.

    3. Rotate the spiral cable counterclockwise slowly by hand until it feels firm.

      NOTE:

      Do not turn the spiral cable by the airbag wire harness.

    4. Rotate the spiral cable clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks.

      NOTE:

      Do not turn the spiral cable by the airbag wire harness.

      HINT: 

      The spiral cable will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.

  6. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 14
  7. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  8. INSTALL STEERING PAD  Refer to step  1
  9. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO. 2  Refer to step  2
  10. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO. 3  Refer to step  3
  11. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  12. INSPECT STEERING PAD  Refer to step  5
  13. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 
    1. Perform initialization. Refer to INITIALIZATION .

      HINT: 

      Some systems need initialization when disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.

  14. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Inspect the SRS warning light. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .
