DTC P0013: Camshaft Position "B" Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 1) (TO 12/2010); DTC P0023: Camshaft Position "B" Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 2) (TO 12/2010): Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE VVT EXHAUST LINEAR (BANK 1 OR BANK 2)) 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank1) or Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank2).
    4. Check the engine speed while operating the Oil Control Valve (OCV) using the Techstream.

      OK

      Techstream Operation Specified Condition
      -128% (OCV OFF) Normal engine speed
      127% (OCV ON) Engine idles roughly or stalls (soon after OCV switched from OFF to ON)

    NG → See step   3 

    OK → See step   2 

  2. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
  3. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT) 
    1. Remove the OCV for exhaust camshaft.

    2. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the OCV.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 6.9 to 7.9 Ω
    3. Connect the positive (+) battery terminal to terminal 1 and connect the negative (-) battery terminal to terminal 2. Check the valve operation.

      OK

      Valve moves quickly.

    4. Reinstall the OCV.

    NG → REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OCV - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the OCV for exhaust camshaft connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between the terminals.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B50-16 (OE1+) - B43-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      B50-17 (OE1-) - B43-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      B50-14 (OE2+) - B20-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      B50-15 (OE2-) - B20-2 Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B50-16 (OE1+) or B43-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      B50-17 (OE1-) or B43-2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      B50-14 (OE2+) or B20-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      B50-15 (OE2-) or B20-2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    5. Reconnect the OCV connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (OCV - ECM) 

    OK → See step   5 

  5. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL
