Automatic Transaxle Assembly: Removal

  1. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE 

    HINT:

    See the steps from "Discharge Fuel System Pressure" through "Engine Assembly with Transaxle" (See REMOVAL ).

  2. INSTALL ENGINE HANGERS  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT 
    1. Remove the flywheel housing under cover.
    2. Turn the crankshaft to gain access and remove the 6 bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

      HINT:

      There will be one black colored bolt.

  4. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  7. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the transmission wire connector.
    3. Disconnect the 2 speed sensor connectors.
    4. Disconnect the 5 wire harness clamps.

    5. Remove the bolt and wire harness bracket.
    6. Remove the bolt and transmission control cable support.

  8. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and mounting bracket.

  9. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and mounting bracket.

  10. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and mounting bracket.
  11. REMOVE TRANSFER STIFFENER PLATE RH  (See REMOVAL )

  12. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 lower side mounting bolts.

    2. Remove the 5 upper side mounting bolts.
    3. Separate and remove the automatic transaxle.
  13. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

  14. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 transmission control cable bracket.

  15. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the transmission oil level gauge sub-assembly.
    2. Remove the bolt and transmission oil filler tube sub-assembly.
    3. Remove the O-ring from the transmission oil filler tube sub-assembly.

  16. REMOVE OIL COOLER TUBE 
    1. Remove the 2 hose clamps, bolt and oil cooler tube.

  17. REMOVE SPEEDOMETER DRIVEN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and hole cover from the transaxle case.
    2. Remove the O-ring from the hole cover.

  18. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the torque converter clutch from the automatic transaxle.
