Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

HINT:

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    5. Check the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to the ON and START positions.

    B: Go to step 2 

    C: Go to step  9

    A: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS  (See CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS )

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.
    2. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.

    6. Check the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to ON.

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Starter Signal Proceed to
      Remains ON A
      OFF B
    7. Reconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.

    B: Go to step  5

    A: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT ECM (STA TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch or the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition Proceed to
      STA (A37-48) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V A
      Below 1.5 V B
    5. Reconnect the clutch pedal switch or the park/neutral position switch connector.
    6. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    B: REPLACE ECM  (See ECM )

    A: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH - ST RELAY) 
    1. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.
    2. Remove the ST relay from the No. 8 relay block.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short) 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST Relay terminal 1 or A4-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.
    5. Reinstall the ST relay.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH - ST RELAY)

    OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH) 

  5. INSPECT CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 OFF (free) 10 kΩ or higher

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Result Proceed to
      Outside standard range A
      Within standard range B
    3. Reconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.

    B: Go to step  7

    A: Go to next step 

  6. REPLACE CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH 
    1. Replace the clutch pedal switch (See CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH ).
  7. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH 
    1. Remove the ignition switch.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      All Terminals LOCK 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (AM1) - 3 (ACC) ACC Below 1 Ω
      2 (AM1) - 3 (ACC) - 4 (IG1) ON
      7 (AM2) - 6 (IG2)
      2 (AM1) - 4 (IG1) - 1 (ST1) START
      7 (AM2) - 6 (IG2) - 8 (ST2)
    3. Reinstall the ignition switch.

    NG: REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH  (See IGNITION SWITCH )

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short) 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A4-1 or A37-48 (STA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    5. Reconnect the clutch pedal switch connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH - ECM)

    OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IGNITION SWITCH - CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH) 

  9. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    6. Check the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to ON.

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Starter Signal Proceed to
      Remains ON A
      OFF B
    7. Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    B: Go to step  12

    A: Go to next step 

  10. INSPECT ECM (STA TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch or the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition Proceed to
      STA (A37-48) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V A
      Below 1.5 V B
    5. Reconnect the clutch pedal switch or the park/neutral position switch connector.
    6. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    B: REPLACE ECM  (See ECM )

    A: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ST RELAY) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Remove the ST relay from the No. 8 relay block.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short) 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B13-5 - ST Relay terminal 1 Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    5. Reinstall the ST relay.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ST RELAY)

    OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 

  12. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short) 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 - 5 Shift lever position except P and N 10 kΩ or higher
      2 - 5 All shift lever positions (P, R, N, D and S) 10 kΩ or higher

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Outside standard range A
      Within standard range (for 2WD) B
      Within standard range (for 4WD) C
    3. Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    B: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH  (See ADJUSTMENT )

    C: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH  (See PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH )

    A: Go to next step 

  13. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH 
    1. Replace the park/neutral position switch (See ADJUSTMENT for 2WD, PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH for 4WD).
  14. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH 
    1. Remove the ignition switch.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      All Terminals LOCK 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (AM1) - 3 (ACC) ACC Below 1 Ω
      2 (AM1) - 3 (ACC) - 4 (IG1) ON
      7 (AM2) - 6 (IG2)
      2 (AM1) - 4 (IG1) - 1 (ST1) START
      7 (AM2) - 6 (IG2) - 8 (ST2)
    3. Reinstall the ignition switch.

    NG: REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH 

    OK: Go to next step 

  15. INSPECT ECM (NSW TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition Proceed to
      NSW (B29-52) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V A
      Below 1.5 V B
    5. Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    6. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    B: REPLACE ECM  (See ECM )

    A: Go to next step 

  16. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short) 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B13-5 or A37-48 (STA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM)

OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IGNITION SWITCH - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH)
