On-Vehicle Inspection
- CHECK STEERING EFFORT (TORQUE) NOTE: Some service operations affect the SRS airbags. Be sure to read the precautionary notice for the SRS airbags before servicing (See AIRBAG SYSTEM ).
- Stop the vehicle on a level, paved surface and align the wheels straight ahead.
- Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- Remove the steering pad (See REMOVAL ).
- Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
- Using a torque wrench, check that the steering wheel set nut is properly tightened.
Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf)
- Start the engine and run it at idle.
- Turn the steering wheel 90° to the right and check the steering effort (torque) while turning. Check in the opposite direction using the same method.
Standard steering effort (Reference):
5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) or less
- Align the front wheels straight ahead.
- Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- Install the steering pad (See INSTALLATION ).
- Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
- Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
- Inspect the SRS warning light (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).
