Inspection Procedure

NOTE:
  • Turn the ignition switch off before measuring the resistance of CAN bus main wires and the CAN bus branch wires.
  • After the ignition switch is turned off, check that the key reminder warning system and light reminder warning system are not in operation.
  • Before measuring the resistance, leave the vehicle as is for at least 1 minute and do not operate the ignition switch, any other switches or the doors. If any doors need to be opened in order to check the connectors, open the doors and leave them open.

HINT:

  1. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (DLC3 BRANCH WIRE) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the CAN No. 1 junction connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E15-6 (CANH) - E15-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 1 MΩ or higher

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BRANCH WIRE CONNECTED TO DLC3 

      OK: Go to Next Step 

  2. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Reconnect the CAN No. 1 junction connector.
    2. Disconnect the CAN No. 2 junction connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E15-6 (CANH) - E15-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

      NG: Go to step  7

      OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (ECM MAIN WIRE) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 2 junction connector is disconnected.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      A34-10 (CANH) - A34-21 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

      NG: Go to step  6

      OK: Go to Next Step 

  4. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 2 junction connector is disconnected.

      Standard Resistance

      A34-8 (CANH) - A34-19 (CANL) Ignition switch off 1 MΩ or higher

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BUS BRANCH WIRE OR CONNECTOR (CAN NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - SKID CONTROL ECU) 

      OK: Go to Next Step 

  5. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Reconnect the CAN No. 2 junction connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      • The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 1 and CAN No. 2 junction connector are reconnected.
      • The resistance must be measured after the skid control ECU connector is disconnected.

        Standard Resistance 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

  6. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 2 junction connector is disconnected.

  7. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - CAN NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the CAN No. 1 junction connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 2 junction connector is disconnected.

      Standard Resistance

  8. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 1 junction connector is disconnected.

  9. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR NETWORK GATEWAY ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the network gateway ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 1 junction connector is disconnected.

  10. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR STEERING ANGLE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 1 junction connector is disconnected.

  11. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - POWER STEERING ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the power steering ECU connector.

    2. Reconnect the CAN No. 2 junction connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 1 junction connector is disconnected.

    1. Disconnect the center airbag sensor assembly connector.

      HINT:

      HINT:

    1. Reconnect the CAN No. 1 junction connector and CAN No. 2 junction connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      • The resistance must be measured after the main wire connect ECU (ECM and combination meter), CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.
      • The resistance must be measured after the all branch wire connect ECU and sensor connectors are disconnected.

  18. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (NETWORK GATEWAY ECU) 
    1. Re connect the network gateway ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the network gateway ECU, main wire connect ECU (ECM and combination meter), CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

      Standard Resistance

  19. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR) 
    1. Re connect the steering angle sensor connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the steering angle sensor, main wire connect ECU (ECM and combination meter), CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

  20. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (POWER STEERING ECU) 
    1. Re connect the power steering ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the power steering ECU, main wire connect ECU (ECM and combination meter), CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

      Standard Resistance

  21. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Re connect the center airbag sensor assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the center airbag sensor assembly, main wire connect ECU (ECM and combination meter), CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

  22. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER) 
    1. Re connect the air conditioning amplifier connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the air conditioning amplifier, main wire connect ECU (ECM and combination meter), CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

      OK: Go to Next Step 

  23. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (MAIN BODY ECU) 
    1. Re connect the main body ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the main body ECU, main wire connect ECU (ECM and combination meter), CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

  24. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (ACCESSORY GATEWAY) 
    1. Reconnect the accessory gateway connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the accessory, main wire connect ECU (ECM and combination meter), CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

      NG: REPLACE THE ACCESSORY 

      OK: REPLACE YAW RATE SENSOR  (See YAW RATE AND ACCELERATION SENSOR (W/ VSC) )

  25. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (COMBINATION METER MAIN WIRE) 
    1. Disconnect the combination meter ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      HINT:

      The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 1 junction connector is disconnected.

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN MAIN WIRE OR CONNECTOR (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - COMBINATION METER) 

      OK: REPLACE COMBINATION METER  (See COMBINATION METER )
