On-Vehicle Inspection

  1. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
    1. Discharge fuel system pressure (see REMOVAL ).
    2. Using a voltmeter, measure the battery voltage.

      Standard voltage: 11 to 14 V

    3. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
    4. Disconnect the fuel tube (see REMOVAL ).
    5. Install SST and the fuel tube connector to the vehicle.

      SST 09268-31012 (09268-41500, 90467-41500, 90467-13001, 95336-08070), 09268-41200, 09268-41220, 09268-41250)

    6. Wipe up any gasoline.
    7. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    8. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    9. Measure the fuel pressure.

      Standard: 304 to 343 kPa (3.1 to 3.5 kgf/cm 2  , 44 to 50 psi)

      • If the fuel pressure is greater than the standard value, replace the fuel tank.
      • If the fuel pressure is less than the standard value, check the connection of the fuel hose and fuel tank.
    10. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.
    11. Set the vehicle to inspection mode (see INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE ).
    12. Start the engine.
    13. Measure the fuel pressure at idle.

      Standard: 304 to 343 kPa (3.1 to 3.5 kgf/cm 2  , 44 to 50 psi)

    14. Stop the engine.
    15. After stopping the engine, check that the fuel pressure does not change for 5 minutes.

      Standard: 147 kPa (1.5 kgf/cm 2  , 21 psi) or more

If the fuel pressure is not as specified, check the fuel tank or fuel injectors (see INSPECTION ).

    16. After measuring the fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and carefully remove SST to prevent gasoline from spilling out.
    17. Connect the fuel tube (see INSTALLATION ).
  2. CHECK FUEL PUMP
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch ON (IG).
NOTE: Do not start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream ON.
    4. Select the following menu items: Power train / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the Fuel Pump Speed.
    5. Check the fuel pump operation while operating it with the Techstream.

If the fuel pump does not operate, replace the fuel tank.

  3. CHECK FOR FUEL LEAK
    1. Check that there are no leaks in the fuel system while fuel pressure is applied.
