DTC DETECTION CONDITION CHART

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P0116 When either of the following conditions is met (2 trip detection logic):
  • While the engine is warming up after a cold engine start, the change in the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor output is below the threshold.
  • In the duration between when a warmed-up engine is stopped and the next cold engine start, the change in the ECT sensor output is below the threshold.
  • Thermostat
  • ECT sensor
P0116 for Mexico Models:
When either of the following conditions is met:
Case 1:
The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) is between 35 and 60°C (95 and 140°F) when the engine is started, and both of the following conditions are met (2 trip detection logic)
  1. The vehicle is driven at varying speeds (accelerated and decelerated).
  2. The ECT remains within 3°C (5.4°F) of the initial ECT.

Case 2:
The ECT is higher than 60°C (140°F) when the engine is started, and both of the following conditions are met (6 trip detection logic)
  1. The vehicle is driven at varying speeds (accelerated and decelerated).
  2. The ECT measurements remain within 1°C (1.8°F) of the initial ECT on 6 successive occasions.
