Inspection Procedure

CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT

Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the Techstream on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

Result

INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137 OR P0138)
1. Refer to the P0136, P0137 or P0138 flowchart.
  HINT:
  - If P0136 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
  - If P0137 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
  - If P0138 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
  - If DTC P0607 and P0136, P0137 or P0138 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or higher).
    NEXT: Go to step 6
CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
1. Allow the engine to idle and rev the engine.
2. Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.
  If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair them and proceed to " 4PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN". If no exhaust gas leaks are present proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN". 4
  
  HINT:
  - If no exhaust gas leaks are present, a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit is suspected.
  - If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.

PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

Clear DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
Start the engine.
Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher.
Perform the driving pattern.
1. Accelerate the vehicle to 80 km/h (50 mph) and stop the vehicle.
2. Drive the vehicle between 56 and 80 km/h (35 and 50 mph) for 5 minutes.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

Read the DTCs.

Result

INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137 OR P0138)
1. Refer to the P0136, P0137 or P0138 flowchart.
  HINT:
  - If P0136 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
  - If P0137 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
  - If P0138 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
  - If DTC P0607 and P0136, P0137 or P0138 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or higher).

INSPECT ECM

Clear DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
Stop the engine and wait for 30 minutes.
Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
Start the engine and allow it to idle for 2 minutes.
Turn the Techstream on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

Check the DTCs.
