Inspection Procedure

  1. INSPECT INTEGRATION RELAY (INTEGRATION RELAY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the integration relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.
    2. Measure the voltage between the terminal of the integration relay and body ground.

      Standard voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      Engine room relay block (1C-1) - Body ground 11 to 14 V
    3. Reinstall the integration relay.

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (INTEGRATION RELAY - BATTERY)

      OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT INTEGRATION RELAY (EFI MAIN RELAY) 
    1. Inspect the integration relay (See INTEGRATION RELAY  ).

      NG: REPLACE INTEGRATION RELAY 

      OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (+B, +B2 AND MREL CIRCUIT) 
    1. Check the harness and connectors between the integration relay and ECM.
      1. Remove the integration relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.
      2. Disconnect the A9 ECM connector.
      3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard resistance (Check for open) 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        MREL (A19-34) - Engine room relay block (1A-2) Below 1 Ω
        +B (A9-3) - Engine room relay block (1A-4)
        +B2 (A9-2) - Engine room relay block (1A-4)

        Standard resistance (Check for short) 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        MREL (A9-34) or Engine room relay block (1A-2) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
        +B (A9-3) or Engine room relay block (1A-4) - Body ground
        +B2 (A9-2) or Engine room relay block (1A-4) - Body ground
    2. Check the harness and connectors between the integration relay and body ground.
      1. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connector and body ground.

        Standard resistance (Check for open) 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        Engine room relay block (1A-3) - Body ground Below 1 Ω

    3. Reinstall the integration relay.
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

      OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the B30 ECM connector.
    2. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E1 (B30-81) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
    3. Reconnect the ECM connector.

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

      OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT ECM (IGSW VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the B30 and A9 ECM connectors.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage between the terminals of the B30 and A9 ECM connectors.

      Standard voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IGSW (A9-28) - E1 (B30-81) 11 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the ECM connectors.

      OK: REPLACE ECM

      NG: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT FUSE (IGN AND IG2 FUSE) 
    1. Remove the IGN fuse from the main body ECU (instrument panel junction block).

    2. Remove the IG2 fuse from the engine room No. 1 relay block.
    3. Measure the IGN and IG2 fuse resistance.

      Standard resistance: Below 1 Ω 

    4. Reinstall the IGN fuse.
    5. Reinstall the IG2 fuse.

      NG: CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND COMPONENTS CONNECTED TO FUSE, AND REPLACE FUSE

      OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT IG2 RELAY 
    1. Remove the IG2 relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.
    2. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      3 - 5 10 kΩ or higher
      3 - 5 Below 1 Ω (Battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2)
    3. Reinstall the relay.

      NG: REPLACE IG2 RELAY

      OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - ENGINE ROOM NO. 1 RELAY BLOCK) 
    1. Remove the IG2 relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.
    2. Disconnect the A9 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      Relay block IG2 relay terminal (5) - IGSW (A9-28) Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      Relay block IG2 relay terminal (5) or IGSW (A9-28) - Body ground 10 KΩ or higher
    4. Reinstall the IG2 relay.
    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      Out of normal range A
      Within normal range (with Smart Key System) B
      Within normal range (without Smart Key System) C

      B: Go to step 9 

      C: Go to step  10

      A: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE ROOM NO. 1 RELAY BLOCK - MAIN BODY ECU) 
    1. Remove the IG2 relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.
    2. Disconnect the E16 instrument panel junction block (main body ECU) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      Relay block IG2 relay terminal (1) - IG2D (E16-5) Below 1 Ω
      Relay block IG2 relay terminal (2) - Body ground Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IG2D (E16-5) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reinstall the IG2 relay.
    5. Reconnect the instrument panel junction block (main body ECU) connector.

      OK: CHECK SMART KEY SYSTEM

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE ROOM NO. 1 RELAY BLOCK - IGNITION SWITCH) 
    1. Remove the IG2 relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.
    2. Disconnect the E3 ignition switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      Relay block IG2 relay terminal (1) - IG2 (E3-6) Below 1 Ω
      Relay block IG2 relay terminal (2) - Body ground Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IG2 (E3-6) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reinstall the IG2 relay.
    5. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

      OK: Go to next step 

  11. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the ignition switch (See REMOVAL ).

      NG: REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

      OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IGNITION SWITCH - BATTERY)
