Steering Angle Sensor: Removal
NOTE:
Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the spiral cable.
HINT:
The steering angle sensor is a component of the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly. If the steering angle sensor malfunctions, replace the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly.
- PRECAUTION CAUTION: Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing (See AIRBAG SYSTEM )
- ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
- REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING PAD (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly (See
REMOVAL
).NOTE:
- Do not replace the spiral cable with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
- Do not rotate the spiral cable with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
- Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering angle sensor.
- Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the spiral cable.
- Never use the steering angle sensor detached from spiral cable.
