Inspection Procedure
- CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Turn the tester ON.
- Select the following menu items: Powertrain/Engine and ECT/Trouble Codes.
- Read the DTCs.

A: Go to next step
- CHECK DTC (P0136, P0137 OR P0138)
- Check the P0136, P0137 or P0138 flow chart.
HINT:
- If P0136 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
- If P0137 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
- If P0138 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
- If DTC P0606 and P0136, P0137 or P0138 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).
NEXT: Go to step 6
- Check the P0136, P0137 or P0138 flow chart.
- CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
- Allow the engine to idle and rev the engine.
- Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.
If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair it and proceed to step 4. If no exhaust gas leaks are present, proceed to step 4.
HINT:
- If no exhaust gas leaks are present, a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit is suspected.
- If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.
- PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature becomes 75° (167°F) or more.
- Perform the driving pattern.
- Accelerate the vehicle until 50 mph (80 km/h) and stop the vehicle.
- Drive the vehicle by 35 to 50 mph (60 to 80 km/h) for 5 minutes or more.
- Select the following menu items: Powertrain/Engine and ECT/Trouble Codes.
- Read the DTCs.

- CHECK DTC (P0136, P0137 OR P0138)
- Check the P0136, P0137 or P0138 flow chart.
HINT:
- If P0136 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
- If P0137 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
- If P0138 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
- If DTC P0606 and P0136, P0137 or P0138 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).
- Check the P0136, P0137 or P0138 flow chart.
- INSPECT ECM
- Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- Stop the engine and wait for 30 minutes.
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Start the engine and allow it to idle for 2 minutes.
- Turn the tester ON.
- Select the following menu items: Powertrain/Engine and ECT/Trouble Codes.
- Read the DTCs.
