Steering Wheel: Removal: Removal

WARNING:

Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing. Refer to PRECAUTION .

  1. TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACE STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    WARNING:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    NOTE:
    • Make sure that the cable has been disconnected from the battery terminal for at least 2 seconds before reconnecting the cable.
    • Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal with the front wheels facing straight ahead.
  3. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
  4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
  5. REMOVE STEERING PAD  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.

    2. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering main shaft.
    3. Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable.
    4. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

      • SST: 09950-50013 
        • 09951-05010
        • 09952-05010
        • 09953-05020
        • 09954-05021
      NOTE:

      Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (09953-05020) before use.

  7. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/ Navigation System)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6
  8. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH LH (w/ Steering Pad Switch)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  9. REMOVE NO. 1 STEERING WHEEL ORNAMENT (w/ Steering Pad Switch) 
    1. Remove the screw.

    2. Disengage the 2 pins to remove the No. 1 steering wheel ornament from the steering wheel sub-assembly.

  10. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH (w/ Cruise Control System)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  11. REMOVE LOWER STEERING WHEEL BOSS COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.

    2. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering wheel boss cover from the steering wheel sub-assembly.

  12. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD ATTACHING SCREW 
    1. Remove the 2 steering pad attaching screws from the lower steering wheel boss cover.
