Steering Column Assembly: Installation: Installation

  1. INSTALL STEERING POST ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the 2 bushings are securely installed to the steering column assembly.

      HINT: 

      If the bushings are missing or damaged, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.

    2. Install the steering post assembly with the bolt and 2 nuts.

      Torque: 25 N*m (255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Do not damage the 2 bushings.
      • Do not line-up the bolt hole by prying on the collar or bushings. Only install the bolt in straight, without applying any force to the bushings.
    3. Connect the connectors and engage the wire harness clamps to the steering post assembly.
    4. Engage the wire harness clamp to the power steering ECU assembly.

    5. Connect the connector to the power steering ECU assembly.

    6. Connect the connector to the power steering ECU assembly.

      HINT: 

      Return the lock lever to the original position, engage the claw, and push in the lock of the lock lever, as shown in the illustration.

  2. TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACE STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. CONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering intermediate shaft assembly.

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) 

  4. CONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and the power steering link assembly.

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) 

  5. INSTALL STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 1
  6. INSTALL NO. 2 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Engage the 2 claws and install the No. 2 air duct sub-assembly.

  7. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB REINFORCEMENT 
    1. Install the instrument panel sub reinforcement with the 2 bolts.

  8. INSTALL COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET 
    1. Install the column hole cover silencer sheet with the 2 clips.

    2. Install the floor carpet.
  9. INSTALL TRANSPONDER KEY AMPLIFIER (w/ Engine Immobiliser System) 
    1. Connect the connector to the transponder key amplifier.

    2. Align the transponder key amplifier with the steering column upper bracket. Tilt the amplifier slightly and slide it into position.
    3. Push the transponder key amplifier, and engage the 2 claws to install the transponder key amplifier to the steering column upper bracket.

  10. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using pliers, engage the claw. Install the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly.

    2. Install the connectors to the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
  11. INSTALL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Engage the claw and the 2 pins and install the upper steering column cover.

  12. INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    NOTE:

    If the lower steering column cover is installed in the incorrect order, it will not be possible to assemble the lower steering column cover.

    1. Engage the 2 claws to install the lower steering column cover.

    2. Engage the 4 claws.

    3. Engage the claw.

      HINT: 

      Press the area around the claw to engage it.

  13. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 13
  14. INSTALL NO. 1 SWITCH HOLE BASE  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 14
  15. INSTALL LOWER CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL (for Manual Transaxle)  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 15
  16. INSTALL LOWER CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL (for Automatic Transaxle)  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 16
  17. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX INSERT  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 17
  18. INSTALL FRONT NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX INSERT  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 18
  19. INSTALL FRONT CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Refer to the instructions for Installation of the front console box. Refer to INSTALLATION .

  20. INSTALL UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Refer to the instructions for Installation of the upper instrument panel. Refer to INSTALLATION .

  21. TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACE STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  22. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 25
  23. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  See step  9
  24. INSTALL STEERING PAD  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 1
  25. INSTALL LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 2
  26. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 3
  27. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  28. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:
    • Make sure that the cable has been disconnected from the battery terminal for at least 2 seconds before reconnecting the cable.
    • Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal with the front wheels facing straight ahead.
  29. INSPECT STEERING PAD  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 5
  30. CALIBRATE TORQUE SENSOR ZERO POINT 

    Refer to CALIBRATION

  31. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT 

    Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
