Fuel Pump: Installation: Installation

  1. INSTALL FUEL SUCTION WITH PUMP AND GAUGE TUBE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install a new gasket onto the fuel tank.

    2. Set the fuel suction tube assembly to the fuel tank.
      NOTE:

      Do not bend the arm of the fuel sender gauge.

    3. Fit the spline of the fuel suction tube assembly into the keyway of the fuel tank.

    4. Install a new retainer.
      1. Align the mark on a new retainer with the rib on the fuel tank as shown in the illustration.

        *1 Start Mark (Fuel Tank Side)
        *2 Start Mark (Retainer Side)
      2. Set the plate and claws of SST onto the fuel pump gauge retainer and temporarily tighten the bolts.
        • SST: 09808-14030 
          1. 09808-01010
          2. 09808-01020
          3. 09808-01030
          4. 09808-01040
          5. 09808-01050
      3. While firmly pressing the claws of SST against the ribs of the retainer, fully tighten each bolt.
      4. Set SST handle in place.
      5. Using SST, turn the retainer 740° to 760° clockwise (more than 2 turns), and position the mark on the retainer within range A to install it.

        NOTE:
        • Pressing the retainer against the pump with excessive force will make it difficult to turn and may damage the parts, so do not press down too strongly on SST.
        • Applying excessive force at an angle may cause SST to slip off, so be sure to keep the handle level while rotating.
        • To avoid damaging the parts, do not turn the handle of SST too forcefully, and do not use an impact wrench.
        • If SST slips off the retainer, stop turning the handle, loosen the bolts of SST, and perform the SST set procedure again.
  2. INSTALL FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the fuel tank assembly. Refer to INSTALLATION .
