DTC P0705: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input): Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B13-1 (RB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ST RELAY) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block.
    3. Measure the resistance between the terminals.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B13-9 (L) - 1 (ST relay terminal) Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    5. Install the ST relay.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT ST RELAY 
    1. Inspect the ST relay. Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION .

    NG → REPLACE ST RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room R/B.
    2. Measure the resistance between the terminals

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (ST relay terminal) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Install the ST relay.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the park/neutral position switch. Refer to INSPECTION .

    NG → See step   12 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard voltage

      Shift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      P B50-24 (P) - Body ground 11 to 14 V
      Except P Below 1 V
      N B50-27 (N) - Body ground 11 to 14 V
      Except N Below 1 V
      R B50-25 (R) - Body ground 11 to 14 V*
      Except R Below 1 V
      D and S B50-26 (D) - Body ground 11 to 14 V
      Except D and S Below 1 V

      HINT: 

      * : The voltage will drop slightly due to lighting up of the back up light.

    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Disconnect the transmission control switch connector of the shift lock control unit assembly.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage between the terminals.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      3 (IG) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the transmission control switch connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. INSPECT TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH) 
    1. Inspect the transmission control switch. Refer to INSPECTION .

    NG → See step   13 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Connect the transmission control switch connector of the shift lock control unit assembly.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard voltage

      Shift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S, "+" and "-" A55-25 (S) - Body ground 11 to 14 V
      Except S, "+" and "-" A55-25 (S) - Body ground Below 1 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch off.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B13-4 (B) - B50-62 (NSW) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B13-4 (B) or B50-62 (NSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   11 

  11. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL  .
  12. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL  .
  13. REPLACE TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL  .
