Front Passenger Airbag Assembly: Removal: Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing. Refer to PRECAUTION .

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    WARNING:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

  3. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
  4. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL RH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
  5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  6. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6
  7. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 7
  8. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
  9. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
  10. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 36
  11. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 37
  12. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 12
  13. DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 41
  14. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 14
  15. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 15
  16. DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 41 .

  17. DISCONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.
    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Disconnect the connector.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

  18. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 18
  19. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSEMBLY  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 1
  20. REMOVE NO. 3 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 4
  21. REMOVE NO. 4 INSTRUMENT PANEL CUSHION (for TMC Made)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 12
  22. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.

    2. Lean the instrument panel as shown the illustration and disengage the 5 hooks.

    3. Disengage the 5 hooks and remove the front passenger airbag assembly from the instrument panel as shown in the illustration.

  23. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver with the tip wrapped with protective tape, disconnect the 2 airbag connectors and remove the clamp.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    2. Remove the clamp and instrument panel wire assembly from the front passenger airbag assembly.
