Open in CAN Main Bus Line: Procedure

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal before measuring the resistances of the main wire and the branch wire.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK DLC3 
    1. Disconnect the E86 CAN junction connector connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E1-6 (CANH) - E86-4 (CANH) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      E1-14 (CANL) - E86-15 (CANL) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a DLC3
      *b Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to CAN Junction Connector)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BRANCH WIRE CONNECTED TO DLC3 (CAN-H, CAN-L) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS MAIN WIRE (CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR - ECM)

    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E86-1 (CANH) - E86-12 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to CAN Junction Connector)

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS MAIN WIRE (CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (COMBINATION METER ECU) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E86-3 (CANH) - E86-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to CAN Junction Connector)

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → REPLACE CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR 

  5. CONNECT CONNECTOR 
    1. Reconnect the E86 CAN junction connector connector.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS MAIN WIRE (ECM - CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the E77 ECM connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E77-32 (CANH) - E77-31 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to ECM)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN MAIN WIRE OR CONNECTOR (CAN-H, CAN-L) 

    OK → See step   10 

  7. CONNECT CONNECTOR 
    1. Reconnect the E86 CAN junction connector connector.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS MAIN WIRE (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (COMBINATION METER ECU) - CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the E14 combination meter connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E14-10 (CANH) - E14-9 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Combination Meter Assembly (Combination Meter ECU))

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN MAIN WIRE OR CONNECTOR (CAN-H, CAN-L) 

    OK → See step   9 

  9. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (COMBINATION METER ECU). Refer to  REMOVAL 
  10. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL
