DTC B1643/81: Driver Side Satellite Sensor Bus Initialization Incomplete: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (PAST DTC) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    3. Check the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1622/81 and B1632/81 are not output. A
      DTC B1622/81 is output. B
      DTC B1632/81 is output. C

    B → See step   8 

    C → See step   13 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTORS (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY - SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the No. 2 floor wire connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the side airbag sensor LH.
    4. Check the No. 2 floor wire connectors and terminals (on the center airbag sensor assembly and the side airbag sensor LH sides) and check that the connectors are properly connected.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No problem. A
      Connectors or terminals incorrect. B
      Connector connected improperly. C

    B → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    C → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY - SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH)

    1. Check for short to B+ in the circuit.
      1. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Voltage

        Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
        L1-24 (BBD+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
        L1-23 (BBD-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      4. Turn the ignition switch off.
      5. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    2. Check for open in the circuit.
      1. Using a service wire, connect L4-4 (BBL+) and L4-3 (BBL-) of connector C.
        NOTE:

        Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

      2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        L1-24 (BBD+) - L1-23 (BBD-) Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Check for short in the circuit.
      1. Disconnect the service wire from connector C.
      2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        L1-24 (BBD+) - L1-23 (BBD-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
    4. Check for short to ground in the circuit.
      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        L1-24 (BBD+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
        L1-23 (BBD-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CONNECTORS (SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH - REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the No. 2 floor wire connectors from the side airbag sensor LH and the rear airbag sensor LH.
    4. Check the No. 2 floor wire connectors and terminals (on the side airbag sensor LH and the rear airbag sensor LH sides) and check that the connectors are properly connected.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No problem. A
      Connectors or terminals incorrect. B
      Connector connected improperly. C

    B → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    C → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    A: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH - REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH)

    1. Check for short to B+ in the circuit.
      1. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Voltage

        Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
        L4-1 (BCL+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
        L4-2 (BCL-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      4. Turn the ignition switch off.
      5. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    2. Check for open in the circuit.
      1. Using a service wire, connect L6-1 (BCL-) and L6-2 (BCL+) of connector C.
        NOTE:

        Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

      2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        L4-1 (BCL+) - L4-2 (BCL-) Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Check for short in the circuit.
      1. Disconnect the service wire from connector C.
      2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        L4-1 (BCL+) - L4-2 (BCL-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
    4. Check for short to ground in the circuit.
      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        L4-1 (BCL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
        L4-2 (BCL-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly.
    2. Interchange the side airbag sensor LH with the side airbag sensor RH and connect the connectors to them.

    3. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1643/81 is output. A
      DTC B1648/82 is output. B
      DTC B1643/81 or B1648/82 is not output. C

      HINT: 

      DTCs other than DTC B1643/81 and B1648/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    B → See step   9 

    C → See step   12 

    A: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENOR LH 
    1. Connect the connector to the side airbag sensor LH.
    2. Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with the rear airbag sensor RH and connect the connectors to them.

    3. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1643/81 or B1648/82 is not output. A
      DTC B1643/81 is output. B
      DTC B1648/82 is output. C

      HINT: 

      DTCs other than DTC B1643/81 and B1648/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

  8. GO TO ANOTHER TROUBLESHOOTING. Refer to  DTC B1620/21: Driver Side - Side Airbag Sensor Malfunction; DTC B1622/81: Lost Communication with Driver Side - Side Airbag Sensor Assembly  
  9. REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  10. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  11. REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  12. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM 
  13. GO TO ANOTHER TROUBLESHOOTING. Refer to  DTC B1632/81: Lost Communication with Driver Side Rear Airbag Sensor; DTC B1633/81: Driver Side Rear Airbag Sensor Initialization Incomplete
