Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

U140F AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION / TRANSAXLE: PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Apply the parking brake.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts when the shift lever is in N or P, but does not start in the other positions.

(d) Check that the reverse lights illuminate when the shift lever is in R, but do not function in the other positions.

If a malfunction or failure is found, check the park/ neutral position switch for continuity.
