No Answer-Back: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (DOOR LOCK POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Main Body / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.
      MAIN BODY

      D-Door Lock Pos SW Driver door lock position switch signal/LOCK or UNLOCK ON: Driver side door is unlocked

      OFF: Front passenger side door is locked

      RL-Door Lock Pos SW Rear left side door lock position switch signal/ON or OFF ON: Rear left side door unlocked

      On the Techstream screen, the display changes between ON and OFF as shown in the chart above.

  2. CHECK WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL FUNCTION 
    1. Check the wireless door lock control functions by operating the transmitter switch.

      Result

      Wireless door lock functions are normal but hazard warning lights answer-back does not occur A
      Wireless door lock functions are normal but wireless door lock buzzer answer-back does not occur B
      Doors cannot be locked and unlocked using transmitter C

  3. CHECK HAZARD WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Check that the hazard warning lights flash continuously when the hazard warning signal switch is pressed.

      OK

      Hazard warning lights flash continuously.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU 
    1. Replace the main body ECU with a known good one.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS 
    1. Check that the hazard warning lights flash continuously when the door control transmitter LOCK or UNLOCK switch is pressed.

      OK

      Hazard warning lights flash continuously.

    NG → REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU) 

    OK → END (MAIN BODY ECU IS DEFECTIVE) 

  6. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (WIRELESS DOOR LOCK BUZZER) 
    1. Enter Active Test, using the Techstream to generate a control command, and then check that the wireless buzzer operates normally.
      MAIN BODY

      Wireless buzzer turns ON/OFF.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU) 

  7. INSPECT WIRELESS DOOR LOCK BUZZER 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Always 950 to 1050 Ω
      NOTE:

      When battery voltage is directly applied to the buzzer, the buzzer does not sound.

    NG → See step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (WIRELESS DOOR LOCK BUZZER - CERTIFICATION ECU AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the E36 certification ECU connector and A42 wireless door lock buzzer connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E36-21 (BZR) - A42-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E36-21 (BZR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A42-2 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU) 

  9. GO TO FLOWCHART. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 
  10. GO TO LIGHTING SYSTEM. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 
  11. REPLACE WIRELESS DOOR LOCK BUZZER. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  12. GO TO POWER DOOR LOCK CONTROL SYSTEM (Proceed to Problem Symptoms Table). Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
