On-Vehicle Inspection

  1. INSPECT SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION) 
    1. Perform a diagnostic system check. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
  2. INSPECT SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG HAS NOT DEPLOYED) 
    1. Perform a diagnostic system check. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    2. When the center pillar of the vehicle or the surrounding area is damaged, check if there is any damage to the side airbag sensor. If there are any following defects, replace the side airbag sensor with a new one:
      • Cracks, dents or chips on the sensor housing.
      • Cracks or other damage to the connector.
      • Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number.
      WARNING:

      Be sure to follow the correct removal and installation procedures for the side airbag sensor.

  3. INSPECT SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED) 
    1. When airbags have deployed as the result of a collision, be certain to replace all side airbag sensors in the damaged area (anywhere in need of repair). Furthermore, it is also necessary to replace any side airbag sensors in undamaged areas that have registered a major collision, or which exhibit any of the following abnormalities:
      • Cracks, dents or chips on the sensor housing.
      • Cracks or other damage to the connector.
      • Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number.
      WARNING:

      Be sure to follow the correct removal and installation procedures for the side airbag sensor.
