Steering Column Assembly: Removal: Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 

    Refer to PRECAUTION

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 

    Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.

  3. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
  5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
  6. REMOVE STEERING PAD  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  7. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.
    2. Place matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and main shaft assembly.
    3. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.
      • SST: 09950-50013 
        • 09951-05010
        • 09952-05010
        • 09953-05020
        • 09954-05021
  8. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER

    1. Remove the 3 screws.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover.
  9. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER

    1. Disengage the claw and then remove the upper steering column cover.
  10. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    1. Disconnect all connectors from the combination switch assembly.
    2. Remove the 3 screws.
  11. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 27
  12. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 10
  13. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR FOOTREST  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 1
  14. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 16
  15. SEPARATE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 9
  16. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 30
  17. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 31
  18. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 74
  19. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER

    1. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the steering column hole cover.
  20. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL LH 
  21. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly.
  22. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Mark matchmarks on the power steering gear assembly and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft.
    2. Remove bolt C and the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft from the power steering gear assembly.
  23. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING YOKE 
    1. Mark matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke, No. 2 steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly and steering intermediate shaft assembly.
    2. Remove bolts A and B from the steering sliding yoke.
    3. Slide the steering sliding yoke up and separate it from the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
    4. Pull down the steering sliding yoke from the steering intermediate shaft assembly to remove.
  24. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY

    1. Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps.
    2. Remove the 4 nuts, then remove the steering column assembly from the instrument panel reinforcement assembly.
