Section 15 (Engine Cooling System (2AZ-FE) (Service Information)): Radiator: Removal: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 
  3. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER RH 
  4. REMOVE NO. 4 ENGINE UNDER COVER 
  5. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT  See step  1
  6. REMOVE BATTERY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 15
  7. REMOVE RADIATOR GRILLE PROTECTOR  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2
  8. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER ASSEMBLY (except Sport Package)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
  9. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER ASSEMBLY (for Sport Package)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
  10. REMOVE THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY 
  11. DISCONNECT RADIATOR RESERVOIR TANK HOSE 
    1. Disconnect the radiator reservoir tank hose from the radiator assembly.

  12. DISCONNECT NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE 
    1. Disconnect the No. 1 radiator hose and hose clamp.

  13. DISCONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE 
    1. Disconnect the No. 2 radiator hose from the radiator assembly.

  14. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER HOSE (for Automatic Transaxle)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 24
  15. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 upper radiator supports.

    2. Remove the 2 support cushions from the 2 upper radiator supports.
  16. REMOVE HOOD LOCK ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
  17. SEPARATE WATER BY-PASS HOSE 
    1. Separate the water by-pass hose from the 2 clamps.

    2. Disconnect the water by-pass hose from the radiator assembly.
  18. REMOVE HOOD LOCK SUPPORT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and hood lock support sub-assembly.

  19. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the horn connector.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts and upper radiator support sub-assembly.

  20. REMOVE NO. 2 FAN SHROUD 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, disengage the 2 claws, and remove the No. 2 fan shroud from the radiator assembly.

  21. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the cooling fan motor connector.
      1. Disconnect the 2 cooling fan motor connectors and wire harness clamp.

        NOTE:

        Be careful not to damage the connector.

    2. Remove the radiator assembly with the fan shroud.
      NOTE:

      For vehicles with an air conditioning system, do not apply any excessive force to the cooler condenser assembly or pipe when removing the radiator assembly.

    3. Remove the 2 lower radiator supports.
  22. REMOVE OIL COOLER HOSE (for Automatic Transaxle) 
    1. Disconnect the 2 oil cooler hoses from the radiator.

    2. Disconnect the clamp from the fan shroud.
    3. Remove the 2 bolts and oil cooler hose.
  23. REMOVE FAN SHROUD 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and fan shroud from the radiator assembly.
