Steering Column Assembly: Removal: Removal

  1. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL

  3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  See step  3
  4. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    NOTE:

    Removing the lower steering column cover in the incorrect order will cause the parts to break.

    1. Push the right and left sides of the lower steering column cover to disengage the 4 claws.

    2. Insert fingers into the opening of the tilt lever of the lower steering column cover to disengage the 2 claws.

      HINT: 

      Spread the claws to disengage them.

    3. Using a screwdriver, insert the tip into each service hole to disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover as shown in the illustration.

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  5. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and 2 pins to remove the upper steering column cover.

  6. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect each connector from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
    2. Using pliers, expand the clamp.

      *1 Clamp
      *2 Claw
    3. While holding the clamp expanded, raise the claw using a screwdriver to disengage it, and then remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
  7. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL

  8. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL

  9. REMOVE NO. 1 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 26
  10. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the No. 2 air duct sub-assembly.

  11. REMOVE COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET 
    1. Turn back the floor carpet.

    2. Remove the 2 clips and column hole cover silencer sheet.
  12. SEPARATE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering intermediate shaft.

    2. Remove the bolt.
    3. Separate the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering intermediate shaft.
  13. REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 2 wire harness clamps.

    2. Disconnect the 2 connectors from the power steering ECU assembly.
    3. Disconnect each connector and disengage each wire harness clamp from the steering post assembly.
    4. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and steering post assembly.

  14. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.
